Calum Clenahan
PhD candidate
Calum is a PhD researcher at the University of Sheffiield. He graduated with a MEng in Chemical Engineering from Lancaster University. He previously worked on the processing of 2D layered materials for photocatalytic air purification. He is currently researching the process-structure relationship of lithium ion battery cathode synthesis.

Connagh Launchbury
PhD candidate
Connagh is a PhD researcher at the University of Sheffield, developing new coating and gradient approaches to stabilising Li-ion cathode materials. Previously he completed his MSc in Nanomaterials and Materials Science at the University of Sheffield and a BEng at the University of Plymouth in Mechanical engineering with Composite Materials.

Enrique Sanchez Perez
Postdoctoral Researcher
Enrique obtained a BSc in Chemistry at Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) in 2013 and an MSc in Nanotechnology and Nanochemistry in Université Joseph Fourier in 2015. After completing his PhD on magnetic nanocomposites for artefact conservation between Glasgow and Sheffield, Enrique remained in Sheffield to take up a postdoctoral position developing high-throughput microwave-assisted methods for cathode materials and hydrothermal synthesis of oxalate-based polyanionic cathode materials.

Innes McClelland
FutureCat Project Leader
Innes is an early career researcher in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Sheffield, in the role of project leader on the Faraday Institution’s FutureCat project. He is working on understanding structure-property relationships in battery materials using emerging methods such as operando muon spectroscopy.

Narayan Simrit Kaur
PhD candidate
Narayan Simrit obtained her B.Eng. in Materials Engineering at TH Nuremberg in 2013 while working as a research assistant at the Fraunhofer Institute ZKLM in power electronics. After a few years in the automotive industry sector and the aerospace aerospace sector, she gained her M.Sc. in Materials Science in 2021. Her final year research was synthesising new rare-earth doped luminescent materials. Her Ph.D. focuses on particle morphology control in Ni-rich layered oxides as cathode materials for Li-ion batteries. Her free time is spent creatively with cooking, miniature painting or mosaic making, complemented by yoga, meditation, and mindfulness to achieve a healthy work-life balance.
